Frequently Asked Questions

A redirect chain occurs when a URL redirects to another URL, which then redirects again before reaching the final destination. Long chains slow page load times and can reduce the link equity passed to the final URL.

Ideally, every URL should resolve in one redirect at most. Chains of three or more redirects should be fixed by updating the starting URL to point directly to the final destination.

A 301 redirect is permanent and passes most link equity to the destination URL. A 302 redirect is temporary and passes less equity. Use 301s for pages that have permanently moved.

Outdated or chained redirects slow your site, confuse search engine crawlers, and can cause link equity to be lost. Fixing them improves both user experience and SEO performance.

Update the original URL to point directly to the final destination, eliminating the intermediate redirects. This is usually a simple change in your CMS or .htaccess file.
